Swift Web Search ("we," "our," or "the extension") is committed to transparency and user privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines how the extension handles information when you use its features, including omnibox search, context menu lookups, real-time suggestions, and local history management.
1. Core Principle: No Developer Server Collection
We do not operate backend servers to harvest, log, track, or sell your personal information. We do not collect your name, email address, physical location, IP address, or browsing history on any private database. All features operate locally within your browser or communicate directly with designated third-party search and suggestion endpoints.
2. Data Handled by the Extension
- Search Queries & Web History: When you execute a search via the omnibox, the extension popup, or the right-click context menu, your query is sent directly to our search syndication partner to generate search results powered by Yahoo. We do not store, intercept, or log these queries on developer-owned servers.
- Keystrokes & Real-Time Suggestions: When you type into the search bar within the extension popup or omnibox, partial keystrokes are transmitted directly to a public auto-suggestion API endpoint to return real-time autocomplete suggestions. These requests are stateless and used solely to render matching query recommendations in real time.
- Highlighted Text (Website Content): When you select text on a webpage and click "Search Swift for..." in the right-click context menu, the extension reads only the highlighted text snippet to formulate your search query URL. No other content from the webpage is accessed, read, or saved.
- Local Search History & Preferences: If enabled, your recent search queries are saved strictly on your local device using the
chrome.storage.local API. This allows you to view and recall past searches in the popup interface. You can disable this feature at any time using the in-popup toggle switch, or erase saved searches instantly using the "Clear" button. This data never leaves your device.
3. Third-Party Services
To provide search results and autocomplete functionality, the extension interacts directly with third-party providers:
- Yahoo / Perion Network: Executed web searches redirect to and are served by Yahoo search result pages via Perion syndication feeds. Your interactions with the search results page are subject to Yahoo's Privacy Policy.
- Auto-Suggestion Services: Real-time query predictions are fetched directly from autocomplete endpoints to display query suggestions.
We encourage you to review the privacy policies of these third-party providers to understand their data handling practices.
4. Permissions Used
The extension requests only the minimum permissions necessary to function:
contextMenus: Used exclusively to add a right-click lookup shortcut for selected text.storage: Used strictly to save your history toggle preference and recent queries locally on your machine.- Host Permissions: Used solely to query autocomplete endpoints and route search requests to the designated search feed.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
Because all search history and configuration preferences are stored locally in your browser:
- You can delete all stored queries at any time by clicking "Clear" in the popup menu.
- Uninstalling the Swift Web Search extension immediately and permanently removes all locally stored data from your browser.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect modifications in our practices, browser standards, or legal requirements. Any revisions will be reflected with an updated "Last Updated" date at the top of this document.
